About Susan Coleman, M.A.
My approach to therapy with children, adolescents and families emphasizes a respect for the needs of all family members in achieving mutually satisfying and effective resolutions to their concerns. I rely on my clinical skills and experience to engage children and adolescents in the treatment process, and to create a supportive and safe environment for change.
In my practice I work with clients with a broad range of issues/concerns, including stresses related to family change such as separation/divorce, parenting concerns, and emotional and behavioral difficulties for children and adolescents that negatively impact their functioning at home and school. I work with children and adolescents from preschool age (approximately 4 years old and up) through the late teen years.
I have over 20 years of experience working in a variety of capacities with children and families helping them manage and overcome both outwardly directed behavioral/emotional issues such as oppositional behavior, attention deficits, and problems with anger control; as well as internally directed issues such as anxiety, depression, learning problems, and low motivation/underachievement. I provide both individual and family therapy using solution focused, brief problem solving, cognitive behavioral, and family systems approaches.
